Institutional JRF admission leading to PhD degree:
IASST welcome excellent quality students into the JRF programme of the institute. The minimum requirement is at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC in Science/Engineering/ Technology/Medicine/ Phanmacology subjects are eligible for JRF position. For the reserved category of candidates, relaxation of qualifying examination marks will be as per the Govt. of India rules.
Students under JRF will be admitted twice every year, January and July. Applications will be invited to through the lASST website and press advertisement. Preference will be given to candidates holding national fellowships for Ph.D. programmes like CSIR/UGC/ICMR/DBT NET-JRF etc., subject to qualifying the interview. The remaining vacant seats will be filled up through the lASST All India written entrance examination, followed by an interview. However, the number of intakes in any discipline will depend upon the number of fellowships/funds available at that time. Candidates having national fellowships are exempted from entrance test but have to appear in the interview for final selection.
The entrance test structure will be similar to the National Entrance Test & NET conducted by different funding agencies. The question papers will be set by the recommended academics/scientists profusely of high reputation and belonging to the National Institutes.
Admission:
The candidates selected for the JRF programme will have to appear the AcSIR Ph.D entrance test in the first semester of their joining as a JRF. Selection will be made based on the performance in the selection interview. Shortlisting of candidates for the AcSlR PhD programme will be done as per AcSIR guidelines. However, if a JRF fails to clear the AcSIR Ph.D. entrance test after three consecutive attempts, he/she will be discontinued from the lASST fellowship.
IASST is also affiliated to Guahati University and Cotton University for PhD Registration.
PhD under extramural funded projects of IASST:
Extramural project students interested in doing a Ph.D. will also have to clear the lASST entrance test followed by an interview to qualify for institutional JRF. However, the national fellowship holder project students will directly appear for the interview. Project students clearing institutional-JRF test will be supported from the core grant of lASST on completing their project fellowship for their Ph.D. programme under the same Supervisor they are working with. However, the total duration of fellowship, including project fellowship and institutional fellowship, cannot exceed five years.
IASST and Deaking University, Australia Joint PhD programme
Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati and Deakin University, Australia had signed a MoU for collaborative research to be carried out at both the Institutes. This collaboration includes PhD research in advanced field of science under joint supervision of a Principal supervisor at Deakin University and a lead supervisor from IASST on a selected theme and degree will be offered by the Deakin University, Australia. Candidates who have already cleared IELTS/TOEFL (with overall IELTS score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0 for faculty of SEBE) will be preferred.
Remuneration for the period of research in Australia will be governed as per the norms of Deakin India Research Initiative (DIRI) programme of Deakin University and for the remaining period as per the norms that guides research fellowship of DST, Govt. of India.
Studentship fee: IASST levies monthly studentship fee for institutional-JRF/Ph.D. scholars.
