THRUST AREAS OF RESEARCH

A.Traditional and Modern Drug Discovery and Disease Diagnosis:

  1. Purification and characterization of snake venom and scorpion venom toxins
  2. Development of multidimensional analytical methods for quality control and quality assessment of commercial anti-snake and anti-scorpion antivenoms.
  3. New methods of antivenoms production and detection of snake venom.
  4. Exploration of snake venom proteins, bacterial proteases, and medicinal plant components for the prevention and/or treatment of thrombosis-associated cardiovascular disorders, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders.
  5. Diagnostic application of snake venom toxins for the ex vivo and in vivo detection of breast cancer.
  6. Peptidomimetic.

B. Biodiversity and Eco-System Research:

  1. Proteomic analysis to unveil the geographical and species-specific differences in snake venom composition and its impact on clinical manifestations of snakebite and antivenoms treatment.
  2. Exploration of hydrocarbons degrading bacteria for the bioremediation of petroleum-oil contaminated hydrocarbons in soil and water.
  3. Proteomic analysis to identify the polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) degradation pathway(s) in bacteria.
  4. Purification, characterization, and industrial application of microbial biosurfactant and enzymes.
  5. Phytochemical characterization of edible and toxic mushrooms grown in Assam.

C. Interdisciplinary Center for Research:

  1. Nano biotechnology.
  2. Application of biophysical techniques for the quality assessment of commercial antivenoms.
