IASST Assam, reopens RT-PCR Testing for Covid-19

On the 28th of April, 2021, the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati, an autonomous institute of the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India, reinstated COVID-19 testing in its state of art research laboratory.  Prof. Ashis K. Mukherjee, Director of IASST, reopened the   fully equipped RT-PCR based facility, and reiterated its capacity to efficiently perform 1000 tests per day, to reinforce the Assam Government’s fight against the pandemic. He endorsed the importance of validated test reports to enhance early detection,  disease surveillance, and underscored research potential of this platform at IAAST, in combating Covid -19.

From its inception in June 1, 2020,  RT-PCR based tests on 105639 samples have been   successfully conducted till November 2020. It was established in collaboration with Gauhati Medical College & Hospital and inaugurated by Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Finance, Education (Higher, Secondary and Elementary), Transformation and Development, PWD, Government of Assam..
