On the occasion of ‘World Heart Day’ celebrated every year on 29th September, the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), an Autonomous Institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Guwahati, Assam, organised a day-long programme to celebrate World Heart Day under the banner of 75th Year of India’s Independence-“Azadi Ke Amrit Mahotsava” to generate awareness among the members of the institute on importance of cardiac health and the detrimental effects of Cardiovascular Diseases. This year the theme of the day was ‘Defeat Diabetes / One Nation One Day One Million Tests’.
The programme was started with a health check-up camp for all the employees of IASST. In this camp, around 75 Lipid profile and Cardiovascular marker tests were done free of cost by the Ayursundra Super Speciality Hospital, Guwahati, followed by the scientific presentations presented by Professor A.K. Mukherjee, Director, IASST, Dr. (Mrs) Rajlakshmi Devi, HoD, Life Sciences Division and Dr. M. R. Khan, Associate Professor, Life Sciences Division, IASST. Their presentation enlightened everyone in the morning session. The second session was held with an invited talk, “Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease”, of a renowned cardiologist, Dr. Amiya Kumar Sarma, Director cum Chief consultant at 3D Healthcare, Guwahati. The talk was attended by the Hon’ble Director, IASST, Prof. Ashis Kumar Mukherjee, including faculty members, research scholars, postdoctoral fellows, and other staff members of the institute. The programme was held both online and offline mode maintaining the COVID 19 protocol. The meeting was ended with a vote of thanks offered by the convener.
