The Knowledge Research Centre (KRC) at the Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST) commemorated the 131st birth anniversary of the esteemed Padmashri awardee, Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, through an observance of National Librarians’ Day on August 11, 2023. The event featured an enthralling talk by Prof. Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay, Head of the Department of Library and Information Science (DLISc) at the University of Kalyani, Kolkata.

Prof. Ashis K. Mukherjee, Director of IASST, set the day’s tone by shedding light on the evolving role of librarianship in the digital age during his inaugural speech. The talk session delivered by Prof. Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay, presented a comprehensive understanding of open access knowledge, and emphasized the pivotal role that librarians play in ensuring equitable access to research and knowledge. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. Narendra Lahkar, President of IASLIC, and Prof. Sanjay K. Singh, Head of the Department of Library and Information Science at Guwahati University. Dr. Tilak Hazarika, Head of the Department of Library and Information Science at Cotton University, along with Dr. Dhrubajit Das, Librarian at S B Deorah College and President of ACLA, also enriched the gathering.
