5-Day Hands-On-Training on ‘Production of Fermented Food and Beverages’ organized by the Advanced Level DBT Biotech Hub, IASST

The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), Guwahati, organized a comprehensive 5-Day hands-on training program on the ‘Production of Fermented Food and Beverages’ from July 10th to 14th, 2023. The event, organized by the Advanced Level DBT Biotech Hub at IASST, received an overwhelming response with enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members across Assam. Prof. Ashis .K. Mukherjee, the Director of IASST, envisioned the workshop with the aim of fostering a deeper understanding of fermented food preparation, highlighting its significance, and empowering participants with entrepreneurial prospects in this domain.

The training workshop featured expert lecture series and hands-on-training sessions that explored various aspects of fermented food production, including preparation methods, microbial ecology, traditional techniques, and entrepreneurial opportunities. Esteemed guest speakers, such as Prof. Madhumita Barooah from the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology at Assam Agricultural University, Dr. Wahengbam Romi, Scientist-C at CSIR NEIST, Dr. Sushmita Das, Assistant Professor at the Department of Biotechnology, Gauhati University, and Dr. Mojibur R. Khan, Associate Professor at IASST, along with Santanu Das and Anupam Bhattacharjee, Project Senior Research Associates under the supervision of Dr. M.R. Khan, conducted engaging sessions during the workshop.
