Isolation of potent rhamnolipid biosurfactant producing microorganisms, methods for production of rhamnolipid biosurfactant, applications of rhamnolipid biosurfactant particularly (i) to recovery of hydrocarbons from refinery sludge (ii) to control of environmental pollution caused due to contamination of hydrocarbons and (iii) to control of plant pathogenic fungi of various crop plants.
  2. Phytoremediation and bioremediation of hazardous substances particularly hydrocarbons and heavy metals from contaminated sites.
  3. Vermicompost technology for the management of biowastes.

Opportunity

  1. The formation water which is generated during oil exploration and contains some toxic materials like hydrocarbons and heavy metals, as a result of which it cannot be released in the surroundings without its treatment. A cost-effective rapid method has been developed for treatment of formation water of oil industry by using potent hydrocarbon utilizing bacterial strain.
  2. Rhamnolipidbiosurfactant producing bacterial strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were isolated and studied the potentiality of the biosurfactant against plant pathogenic fungi of tomato, pea and maize and a formulation prepared to control the diseases.
  3. An economically important and potent hydrocarbon remediation by medicinal plant is investigated and a method is developed for remediation of hydrocarbon from crude oil contaminated soil of oil field situated at upper Assam using this medicinal plant.
