The Institute of Advanced Study in Science and Technology, Guwahati, an autonomous ISO 9001:2015 certified organization under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has dedicated the first two weeks of May 2022 to celebrate the ‘SWASCHHATA PAKHWADA’ 2022. This annual function under the Swatch Bharat Mission, Dept. of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, GOI, is to be celebrated for the seventh consecutive year by the IAAST. “The institute seeks to renew its mandate of cleanliness and hygiene of its research laboratories, hostels, residences”, said Prof. Ashis K. Mukherjee, Director, IAAST. Dr. Debasish Chowdhury, Professor, and the program coordinator said that “Annual celebrations reinvigorate awareness, participation, and commitment to ‘Swaschhata Pakhwada’, in a campus where cleanliness is paramount”.
This year several activities are planned during ‘SWASCHHATA PAKHWADA’ from 1st to 15th May 2022, like intra-campus cleanliness drive and sanitation competitions among workers and students, awareness programmes on the refusal of single-use plastics, recycling of plastic wastes, and solid waste management. The Pakwada program is projected to conclude with a valedictory function and prize distribution on 13th May 2022, as informed by Dr. Munima Saharia, Co-Coordinator of the event.
