IASST has celebrated the International Day of Mathematics 2023 on 14-March-2023 at IASST under the umbrella of the 75th Year of India’s Independence – Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. The program is graced by the guest of honor, Prof. Anupam Saikia, Department of Mathematics, IIT Guwahati. The program started with a formal address by the event coordinator, Dr. Santu Das (MCS – PSD). The Director-IASST, Prof. Asish K. Mukherjee, has said that since the dawn of civilization, Indians have contributed significantly to mathematics. In the classical period of Indian mathematics (400 CE to 1200 CE), significant contributions were made by scholars like Aryabhata, Brahmagupta, Bhaskara II, and Varāhamihira. Prof. Saikia delivered an exciting introductory lecture titled “The Fascinating World of Numbers and Their Applications.” Starting from the history of Mathematics in numbers and counting system, the talk has discussed the chronological development of the number theory, its applications in cryptography, and some century-old unsolved problems that provokes more profound thoughts about the fascinating world of numbers. The lecture has been intriguing and interactive, with active participation from the enthusiastic audience. The speaker lucidly addressed the queries and provided more information for the audience. The program ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Devabrat Sharma, a research scholar at the Institute. Dr. Santu Das, faculty, of IASST, organized the program.
